Let Rick’s Musical Instruments, Inc. repair technicians take the “guess work” out of your musical instrument repair. They pride themselves on getting the job done right the first time and returning the instrument to the manufacturer’s specification or an occasional unique customization request. Our highly qualified staff has over 55 years of combined experience with musical instrument repair. Rick Verfaille built the business on his repair reputation with music directors, college professors, and professional musicians alike. (All instruments are serviced at Rick’s Music, and are handled with the same care regardless if the instrument is a student or professional model.)

Minimum Charge on any repair is $19.00 / Polishing silver horns, brass or woodwind, is minimum $100 extra.


Brasswind Chemical Cleanings ('Chem Cleans')

Trumpet, Baritone, and Tuba

Process: Completely disassemble horn, dip all parts in “Slime Away,” rinse and dry all parts, buff slides and pistons, replace all felts and corks, replace springs as needed, lubricate and reassemble horn.

  • Trombone

    Process: Completely disassemble horn, dip all parts in “Slime Away,” rinse and dry all parts, buff tuning slide, replace all corks and felts, restring rotor F attachment (if applicable), replace springs as needed, lubricate and reassemble horn.

  • French Horn:

    Process: Completely disassemble horn, dip all parts in "Slime Away", rinse and dry all parts, buff slides and rotors, replace all felts and corks, replace springs and bumpers as needed, restring rotor mechanisms, lubricate and reassemble horn.

  • Single French Horn: $75.00
  • Double French Horn: $95.00

  • Any additional work such as valve work, slide work, major dents, and any solders are additional charges determined by the technician.
    *** "Slime-Away" is a solution that breaks down organic buildup inside horns and is safe for the finish of the instruments.***

    Woodwind Repairs and Cleaning

    Clarinet Repad:

    Process: Completely disassemble instrument, remove all pads and corks from keys, clean all parts, replace springs as needed, install all new pads and corks, adjust to manufacturer's specifications.

  • Plastic Clarinet: $195

  • Flute /Piccolo Repad

    Process: Completely disassemble instrument, remove all pads and corks, clean all parts, replace springs as needed, install all new pads and corks, and adjust to manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Closed Hold Flute: $195

  • Saxophone Repad

    Process: Completely disassemble instrument, remove minor deuts if necessary, remove all pads and corks, clean all parts, level tone holes and pad cups, replace springs as needed, install all new pads and corks, and adjust to manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Oboe / Bassoon Repad

    Process: Completely disassemble instrument, remove all pads and corks, clean all parts, replace springs as needed, install new pads and corks, and adjust to manufacturer’s specifications.

    Restoring Woodwind Instruments to playing conditions

    Process: Inspect instrument, replace any damaged or missing pads, corks, and springs. Playing conditions DO NOT include taking apart and cleaning. Taking apart and cleaning any musical instruments is a separate charge that is NOT covered under any rental agreement. Cleanings do not include polishing. Polishing can be done for an added fee upon request.

    Minimum charge to restore to “Playing Condition” is $19.00. Any additional work such as major dents, solders, and any missing parts are additional charges.

  • Price per pad: $10.00 - $14.00

  • "Clean, Oil and Adjustment" for Woodwind Instruments

    Process: Completely disassemble instrument. Dip instrument body in “Slime Away”. Rinse and dry instrument. Clean and wipe pads and keys. Reassemble, oil, and lubricate all moving parts.

    Guitar, Mandolin, and Banjo

    Basic Restring on Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Ukulele, or Banjo

    Process: Take strings off instrument, clean any loose debris from under strings, install new strings, and tune.

    All instruments: $19.00 plus repair parts.


    Guitar set-ups

  • Acoustic Guitar (All Sizes): $35 plus repair parts
  • Electric Guitar $40 plus repair parts
  • Bass Guitar: $40 plus repair parts
  • Floyd Rose or Similar: $55 plus repair parts

  • Banjo set-ups

    $100 plus strings and repair parts. This Banjo set-up includes complete clean and polish of the pot assembly

    $45 without cleaning of pot assembly


    Mandolin set-ups

    $45 plus strings and repair parts.

    Other string repair costs are determined upon visual inspection by repair department.

    Repairs are guaranteed for 90 days unless otherwise specified on certain brand names at time of drop-off.
